We are excited to introduce Malware Scanner – a new security improvement for the Dualog Drive data exchange service. This optional feature scans files for malware in the cloud before they are delivered to your onboard or office systems, adding an extra layer of protection to your data.
Why cloud-based scanning matters
Cyber threats in shipping are constantly evolving, making it essential to have a multilayered cybersecurity approach. Endpoint security is the primary measure on vessels. However:
- There’s no centralised malware scanning before files reach the destination.
- A single antivirus solution may miss new evolving threats, such as zero-day attacks.
- A standalone antivirus may not include sandboxing or behavioral analysis.
- Limited IT support cannot ensure that onboard security is always up to date.
As a result, undetected malicious files may spread throughout the fleet.
How Malware Scanner works
This tool is part of the Dualog Drive data exchange service. You can configure and enable malware scanning for any data exchange between the ship and shore. It works as follows:
- Files are sent from the ship or office via Dualog cloud as usual.
- Multiple malware detection engines analyse the files in the cloud.
- If no malware is detected, the files are forwarded to their destination.
- If malware is found, an alert is triggered, and the infected file is quarantined at the source.

How it improves data security at sea
This solution was created in collaboration with fleet IT professionals who understand the need for proactive cybersecurity measures, especially when it comes to data exchange between ships and shore.
Malware Sanner:
- Operates in the cloud without any shipboard installations.
- Ensures efficient scanning 24/7 without the need for updates.
- Prevents the spread of infected files through Sandbox technology.
- Reduces the risk of zero-day attacks, known malware, and viruses.
- Provides comprehensive reporting via a dashboard.
