We’re proud to announce the official release of the new Dualog Mail: individual corporate email accounts for everyone onboard, now with personal logins to role-based mailboxes and multi-factor authentication (MFA). This new release marks a big step forward in maritime email communication, combining security, simplicity, and full traceability in one powerful update.
Email continues to be the primary gateway for cyberattacks, and the regulatory landscape is becoming increasingly strict. To stay ahead of rising threats and evolving compliance requirements, this update enables you to optionally remove shared logins and ensure full fleet-wide email accountability.
With personal logins and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), every crew member can now access role-based mailboxes using their own secure credentials. Shared mailboxes like master@ or chiefengineer@ remain, but access can now be assigned to the authorised person and is fully auditable in the admin portal.
“With this release, Dualog Mail provides unlimited personal email accounts per vessel, ensuring each crew member gets a secure, traceable, and standardised communication tool, fostering operational clarity and a stronger sense of belonging.”

Transforming email communication at sea
Business Mail becomes Dualog Mail, reflecting its transformation into a more secure and compliant way to communicate and manage email onboard. Here’s what’s included in the new experience:
Personal login to role-based mailboxes
Each person uses their own credentials to access mailboxes like captain@, based on their current role. No shared passwords or unauthorised logins.
Dedicated work email accounts for everyone onboard
You can give each crew member their own standardised corporate email. Enable reliable and consistent email communication across your fleet.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
MFA can now be enforced at the individual level, significantly raising the cybersecurity posture.
Full traceability and audit logs
See exactly who sent emails, accessed accounts, and changed any configurations. Every action is logged and visible in the admin portal.
Automated access management
Integrate with your Crew Management System to automatically grant or revoke access when a crew member joins or leaves a vessel. You can also manually import users using CSV uploads or APIs.

How personal login to role-based mailboxes works
Each crew member logs in to their work mailbox using individual credentials. The system offers them access to the correct shared mailboxes based on their role onboard. So, if you’re the Captain today, you get access to captain@. Additionally, you can configure access to different shared mailboxes that will be automatically granted or revoked to specific users and roles onboard, depending on their rotation.
Why we built it: today’s threats and tomorrow’s compliance
Email remains the most common entry point for cyberattacks. According to Verizon’s latest Data Breach Investigations Report, 98% of social engineering attacks come through email. Microsoft reports that MFA can prevent 99.9% of account breaches. Safety4Sea estimates the average cost of a maritime cyber incident is over $550,000.
And regulations are catching up. The EU’s NIS2 directive threatens fines of up to €10 million for poor cyber hygiene, like using shared passwords. Classification societies are also enforcing stricter audit and identity controls, as reflected in the IACS Unified Requirements E26 and E27. Dualog Mail now delivers those capabilities as standard.
“Vendors love to talk about AI threat hunting, yet most ships still rely on shared passwords. We’re fixing the basic flaw first, giving every seafarer a secure identity.”

Mikael Johannessen
Product Manager at Dualog
Developed in collaboration with IT professionals from leading shipping companies, this release reflects real operational needs. As one of our customers recently stated:
“Shared accounts are holding the industry back. Moving to per-user logins with MFA is the fastest way to raise security and satisfy the regulators that are closing in.”
In addition: Fleet-wide Identity Provider with Single Sign-On (SSO)
This release was just the beginning. Now you are able to use Dualog accounts as an indetity provider and Single Sign-On (SSO) solution for all onboard and cloud-based systems, not just email.

This tool allows you to:
- Use Dualog identity to login into third-party applications that support SAML, SCIM, and OpenID protocols: PMS systems, Crewing systems, Mental wellness portals, Crew training systems, Cybersecurity platforms and more.
- Sync crew data into the local active directory onboard through Active Directory integration, allowing them to log in to Windows using their Dualog credentials.
