"Dualog had the solution we wanted in order to give the crew access to the internet,” says Gaute Teigen.
Teigen is manager of Marine Operation Shipping at the Wilh. Wilhelmsen shipping company, and expects to have Dualog Connection Suite installed on board the company’s entire fleet by the end of the year.
"We tried out Dualog Connection Suite on board three of our ships, before deciding to opt for their solution,” says Teigen.
Together with Swedish partner Wallenius, Wilhelmsen is the biggest in the world when it comes to the transport of rolling cargo, controlling about 140 ships.
Offices in 71 countries
Today, the Wilhelmsen Group runs large-scale maritime operations in addition to traditional shipping, and has a staff of approximately 20,000 employees.
The group has 312 offices in 71 different countries, among which some of the biggest are found in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Tokyo, Dubai and Southampton. The headquarters are located in Oslo, Norway, where we find Teigen’s department.

“Broadband at sea is very expensive. Therefore, it is important to get as much as we can from the VSAT capacity we buy. Bandwidth is quickly eaten up if we are not careful how we use it,” Teigen points out.
“In other words, we need to have rules of use, and Dualog has developed some good solutions in this respect, helping to free up bandwidth.”
